Hand injuries are a common occurrence that can often result in cuts, puncture wounds, or other lacerations despite whether one is wearing a pair of gloves or not. Many hand injuries can be avoided or reduced by wearing a pair of cut-resistant gloves.

The reality is, no pair of gloves is ever going to be fully “cut-proof.” But industry standards that have been developed—such as ANSI 105-2016—designate a glove’s “cut-resistance” rating. Choosing a glove with a level of cut-resistance commensurate to the task at hand will help you avoid cuts from metals, glass, wood, ceramics, and other sharp or abrasive materials, while also adding a level of protection when using hand or power tools.

    ANSI 105-2016 Cut-Resistance Levels:

A1 – Light Cut Hazards | 200–400 (grams) of weight to cut.
    A2 – Light/Medium Cut Hazards | 500–999 (grams) of weight to cut.
    A3 – Light/Medium Cut Hazards | 1000–1499 (grams) of weight to cut.
A4 – Medium Cut Hazards | 1500–2199 (grams) of weight to cut.
    A5 – Medium/Heavy Cut Hazards | 2200–2999 (grams) of weight to cut.
A6 – High Cut Hazards | 3000–3999 (grams) of weight to cut.
A7 – High Cut Hazards | 4000–4999 (grams) of weight to cut.
A8 – High Cut Hazards | 5000–5999 (grams) of weight to cut.
A9 – High Cut Hazards | 6000+ (grams) of weight to cut.
